Pop superstar Michael Jackson led an unorthodox life and was a household name around the globe. He had money and fame but there was one thing that he couldn’t get. In fact, Michael Jackson was so upset about it that it is reported the “Thriller” singer paid $150,000 to put a curse on Steven Spielberg as a payback.
The pop star had a fascination with Peter Pan. His ranch was even named Neverland and by all accounts Jackson lived his life with childlike wonder.
So, when he heard of Spielberg’s plans to recreate this favorite movie as “Hook,” Michael Jackson wanted in. He wanted to be his cartoon hero, Peter Pan.
But, Spielberg didn’t have the same vision as Jackson. “Hook” was about Peter Pan as an adult who had forgotten about his childhood.
In Spielberg’s version, Pan returned to Neverland to save his own children who were kidnapped by Captain Hook. It was not the same idyllic character that Michael Jackson dreamed of playing.

Spielberg passed over Jackson and chose Robin Williams for the role of Peter Pan.
The funny man brought a completely different brand of style to the childhood hero. It was a new spin and completely different than what the singer had envisioned.
“Michael had always wanted to play Peter Pan, but I called Michael and I said, ‘This is about lawyer that is brought back to save his kids and discovers that he was once, when he was younger, Peter Pan,’” the director relayed in an interview. “So Michael understood at that point it wasn’t the same Peter Pan he wanted to make.”

One of Michael Jackson’s business managers later told Vanity Fair on the record that he assisted the singer by sending a small fortune abroad to have Spielberg cursed over this transgression.
The business manager wired $150,000 to a voodoo chief in Mali for this witchcraft to occur. The voodoo chief then reportedly sacrificed 42 cows to put a curse on Spielberg, David Geffen, and 23 other people on Michael Jackson’s list.
The singer was told by the voodoo chief that his listed enemies, including Spielberg would die soon.
The expensive and bloody curse failed. Steven Spielberg has outlived both Michael Jackson and Robin Williams.
