‘Grease’ Caught In Cancel Culture Crosshairs: It’s ‘Rapey’ And ‘Homophobic’

This week, online activists are taking aim at the classic musical Grease calling it “rapey” and demanding Hollywood cancel it. Grease, which stars John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, takes place in a 1950s American high school and so it doesn’t subscribe to modern cancel culture’s “acceptable” standards. 

As demonstrated time and again, the political correctness police don’t just want to change the way we act today. They also want to erase things from the past that don’t stand up to their standards.

Rather than just enjoying the movie, woke liberals have decided to overanalyze and target it. If they can’t get past the “toxic masculinity” and enjoy the movie, they don’t want anyone else to either. 

Grease recently aired on BBC. That prompted some superficial snowflakes to watch the famed movie that dominated the box offices in the 1970s.

They were shocked at how “racist, and homophobic” the movie is because it is filled with white heterosexuals. Some even felt it was “slut-shaming.”

Cancel Culture Deems Grease Love Story Of Danny And Sandy “Rapey”

One new watcher of the movie demanded it be should never be seen again.

“Grease is far too sexist and overly white and should be banned from the screen. It is nearly 2021 after all,” she wrote on social media. 

The movie tells the tale of Danny, played by John Travolta, and Sandy, played by Olivia Newton-John, who meet in 1958. Their romance was one that was frowned upon during that time.

Danny was a greaser and bad boy while Sandy was the wholesome girl next door type. By the end of the movie, Sandy ends up morphing into a confident bombshell.

This story of forbidden fruit grabbed hold of Americans who loved this tale of love finding a way. 

The song “Summer Nights” details each’s version of their whirlwind romance. Danny’s friends ask “Did she put up a fight?”

While nobody took notice of that at the time in 1978, that line has greatly upset those looking for something to be upset about. 

There is apparently plenty for woke hipsters to complain about. It wasn’t just the male characters who were targets.

They also took aim at Rizzo for being a bully to Sandy.

Rizzo Is A Bully

Rizzo mocked Sandy for being rather straight. It is pretty characteristic for teen girls to be jealous of each other. This is normal and part of growing up, but to those woke folks, it is bullying.

It’s hard to imagine anyone mentally stable watching Rizzo sing “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee” in the video below and getting enraged. 

This nonsense highlights Gen Z’s inability to understand what life was like in the past. We can’t change the past and we shouldn’t erase it either.

To many of us, those were the best days of our lives and molded us into productive citizens who don’t sit around and demand offensive things be canceled. 

It will be interesting to see if either John Travolta or Olivia Newton-John respond to these calls to cancel Grease. One would think the beloved musical that catapulted their careers would have a special place in their hearts.
