WarGames In A Nutshell: Who Will Win The WarGames

It’s time for the final NXT PPV of the year, which means it’s time for WarGames In A Nutshell. So, who will win the WarGames?

That is precisely what we aim to find out, by the time the dust and debris settles.

For this edition of WarGames, we of course get not one, but two WarGames matches.

For the women, it’s Candace LeRae and friends battling Shotzi Blackheart and company.

On the men’s side, it’s The Undisputed Era taking on the Kings of NXT, otherwise known as Team McAfee.

In case two WarGames battles weren’t enough, we do have a few other matches to enjoy. The North American Championship is the only belt that can change hands tonight.

So, who will win the WarGames?

Let’s crack open this Nutshell and find out!

Best Match of the night:

I’d have to say that several matches did a really good job.

The absolute best was the men’s WarGames match in my opinion…but it could have gone to several tonight.

So who will win the WarGames? Well, Team Candace and The Undisputed Era did…but the fans did too.

Worst match of the night:

Not applicable tonight.

Star of the Night

I give a lot of credit to Pat McAfee for hanging in only his second match, but the blunt part of me does acknowledge one thing. An 8 man tag match has a lot of chances to obscure faults.

Not saying that’s what happened…but just putting it out there.

In the end, however, to the victors go the spoils. The victors here?

How about the new North American Champion, Johnny Gargano, for one.

The women from the WarGames match all deserve kudos.

But the big stars?

Spot of the Night:

Pat McAfee…a man who, while a capable athlete, is barely a professional wrestler…dives off the top of the cage to take everyone out.

He’s clearly worked hard and been trained well, but that’s a big spot for a seasoned veteran…and this was McAfee’s second match.

Jobber of the Night:

Not tonight.

I mean…even some of the tables couldn’t do their jobs. Talk about not being rigged right…

Upset of the Night:

None. When you have only a handful of matches, the chances for an upset are few and far between.

The closest I’d get would be to say having Raquel pin Io might be one. Though, this was likely to set up a new challenger for Io’s title (if I had to make a logical guess).

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

WarGames. Both matches, plenty of spots and craziness.

A bit of blood the hard way, as you might expect.

That one table in particular didn’t want to break, and only did with the weight of three Superstars going through it…and barely.

Noteworthy Moment:

Austin Theory is in cahoots with Johnny Gargano. It was he behind the last ghost mask, and that helped this happen…

Early in the show, Finn Balor said he’d be back on Wednesday. Later in the show, we saw someone might just want to run into the current NXT Champion…

Overall lowlights:

As with most TakeOver shows, there was very little to complain about.

My one very minor complaint is that only one title got defended. But, I see WarGames as like Survivor Series-a major special event, no title matches really needed.

Overall highlights:

The women’s WarGames match. Heck of a way to open the show, and it was a unique approach to how it all went.

That said, the match was very solid.

The show just kept going from there, with plenty to like. It peaked with the men’s WarGames main event.

Pretty much everything in between was very enjoyable.

After the final bell:

Pretty good way to end 2020, in terms of TakeOver. Whether you liked who won WarGames or not, both matches (and all in between) unfolded nicely.

There’s a new North American Champion, there’s an emerging threat to the NXT Women’s Championship, and Karrion Kross is close to his return.
