Matthew McConaughey Champions Free Speech, Torches Radical Left In Piers Morgan Interview

In a new interview with Piers Morgan on “Good Morning Britain,” Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey championed free speech and eviscerated what he calls the “illiberal” radical left.

This isn’t the first time the Academy Award winning Texan lashed out at cancel culture and, at this rate, it’s unlikely to be his last.

Matthew McConaughey Eviscerates ‘Illiberal’ Radical Left With Piers Morgan

Holding nothing back, 51 year-old McConaughey blasted radical liberals who drive cancel culture and “completely illegitimize” conservatives.

“You need liberals, what I don’t think we need is the illiberals and what I don’t think that some liberals see is that they’re often being cannibalized by the illiberals,” the Oscar-winner explained.

“The extreme left and the extreme right completely illegitimize the other side, the liberal and the conservative side which we need in certain places.”

“The two extremes illegitimize those two sides, or they exaggerate that side’s stance into an irrational state that makes no sense – and that’s not fair when either side does that,” he added.

Matthew McConaughey On Cancel Culture And Free Speech

Not stopping there, McConaughey touched on cancel culture and the war on freedom of speech that has been launched by the left.

“Where the waterline’s going to land on this freedom of speech, and what we allow and what we don’t and where this cancel culture goes, where that waterline lands is a very interesting place that we’re engaged in right now as a society because we haven’t found the right spot,” he said.

“I would argue to say we don’t even have true confrontation right now. True confrontation at least gives some validation to the opposing point of view or legitimizes the opposing point of view,” McConaughey added. “You’ve got to have confrontation to have unity, I think we can all agree on that, and that’s when a democracy works really well.”

“Right now, we don’t have true confrontation because we don’t even give legitimacy to an opposing point of view, we give no validation to it, we make that view persona non grata,” the native Texas finished. “In a way, it’s sort of unconstitutional.”

Well, Matthew McConaughey really made the most of his interview time with unabashed British host Piers Morgan. Of course, the Brit is known to ruffle some feathers himself.

Could He Be Considering A Run For Political Office?

McConaughey has become increasingly political as of late. While he’s taking heat for expressing his down-to-earth views, the family man seems non-plussed by any negative attention.

In fact, the Interstellar actor has continued to bravely speak out against political extremism and cancel culture.

The A-lister isn’t afraid to expose the radical left despite the fact Hollywood is currently controlled by liberal elites who surely will not take kindly to what he has to say.

“On the far left, there is a lot [of people] on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize, and are arrogant towards the other 50 percent,” he said last week.

“Many people, I’m sure you saw it, in our industry, when Trump was voted in four years ago, they were in denial that it was actually real. Some of them were in absolute denial,” McConaughey added.

Matthew McConaughey’s politics bend has people talking.  Some even speculate that a potential political run could be coming in the Texan’s future.

McConaughey’s views on politics are incredibly refreshing. Unlike the political opinions of so many of his fellow Hollywood peers, his actually make sense!

While the thought of most Hollywood elites running for political office is enough to send us into panic mode, perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad if this common sense actor did just that!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
