Drew McIntyre Randy Orton

The feud between Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton seems to be ending, but WWE has other plans. Also, a surprise name pushed for the New Day to split.

Drew McIntyre & Randy Orton Plans

Since August, Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton have been battling over the WWE Championship. After two unsuccessful attempts, Orton claimed the title at Hell in a Cell.

We already know Orton’s next opponent will be WWE Champion Roman Reigns. They meet in a champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series.

Besides that, Orton will need an opponent as the Reigns match is a one-off. On RAW, it was teased that McIntyre is still  in the mix with The Fiend also showing interest.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, they looked at some bigger angles. WWE is looking at WrestleMania 37 with two big matches currently penciled in.

They have Orton taking on Edge and McIntyre meeting Heavyweight Boxing Champion Tyson Fury. All four men have a history.

Edge vs. Orton

Edge Versus Randy Orton Could Benefit From Empty Arena

Edge’s only feud since returning to WWE at the start of 2020 has been against Orton. They are currently 1-1 as Edge sits out with an injury.

At WrestleMania 36, Edge won a Last Man Standing Match. Then, Orton got revenge by Winning The Greatest Wrestling Match ever at Backlash.

The current idea sees Edge returning and facing Orton for the title at WrestleMania in an I Quit Match. Edge should be back around January or February, so he could win the Royal Rumble.

McIntyre vs. Fury

Tyson Fury's Wrestling Career

2020 has been a great year for McIntyre. He started it off by eliminating Brock Lesnar from the Royal Rumble before winning the whole thing.

Then, he successfully defeated Lesnar in the main event of WrestleMania 36 and held the title until last month. During that time, he went nearly a year without being pinned.

The only blemish on McIntyre’s record was getting pinned twice by Orton within a matter of weeks. So, WWE still sees big things to come from McIntyre.

The idea is for McIntyre to work against Fury, who many considered the pound-for-pound best heavyweight boxer. Both having been trading jabs online for months now.

Many thought the match would take place from Saudi Arabia, but there is timetable for WWE’s return. Fury competed at the last Saudi Arabia show and made tons of money.

With the way 2020 has gone, anything can happen before WrestleMania 37. But, those matches are the current direction WWE is headed.

Who Decided To Split New Day?

For six years, the New Day entertained fans and their peers while capturing gold along the way. The stable could not last forever and that is happened in the latest WWE Draft.

Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods were sent to RAW, while Big E remained on SmackDown. The idea is to build Big E as a top singles superstar.

While on the Gorilla Position, Big E revealed it was Daniel Bryan who pushed for the split.

”I have to give credit to Daniel Bryan because the run, the idea for the solo run, was from him,” said Big E. “Like Bryan is the reason.”

“He’s actually a part of the process and the one who said ‘Hey, this is what we should with Big E,’ so he’s been behind that. I’m really grateful, but it feels like an environment where I do have a voice.’’

Over the past year, Bryan was giving another role in WWE as a writer for SmackDown. He has been looking to push guys that have been overlooked by WWE.

WWE seems invested in pushing Big E as a top face on SmackDown. Even the betting sites have Big E in contention to win the Royal Rumble this January.
