Heading into AEW Full Gear, the promotion was looking to bounce back from a lackluster All Out. In the end, the card lived up and likely surpassed expectations.
Counting the pre-show, there were nine matches with several title on the line. Also, the outcome saw the landscape of AEW change.
Serena Deeb successfully defended her NWA Women’s Championship on the Buy-in against former champion Allysin Kay. The NWA-AEW relationship is going strong as Thunder Rosa made it clear she wants to regain the tile from Deeb.
For about a half a year, Kenny Omega and “Hangman” Adam Page were the AEW Tag Team Champions. They had plenty of problems, eventually leading to them dropping the titles.
The main card opened hot as both men worked well together. In the end, Omega won and now gets a AEW World Championship shot against Jon Moxley.
This match was built around comedy. Orange Cassidy won in an entertaining bout, but this seems like a demotion after a lengthy program with Chris Jericho.
Cody Rhodes regained the TNT Championship a few week ago, but has already dropped. Despite showing signs of a heel, Cody managed to keep his face persona.
There was lots of talk if Darby Allin could be major star in AEW. Well, he pinned Cody clean to win the TNT Championship at Full Fear.
After the bell, Brain Cage, Ricky Starks and Taz attacked both wrestlers. Before the trio could break Allin’s arm, Will Hobbs made the save.
Hikaru Shida continued her winning ways going as she defeated Nyla Rose to retain the AEW Women’s Championship. After the bell, Vickie Guerrero slammed Rose; so, there is tension between those two.
If The Young Bucks lost, they could never challenge for the AEW Tag Team Champion again. But, they left with the gold in the longest match. This marks their first run with the tiles in what could be match of the night. The dream match lived up to the hype.
Finally, AEW was able to put on The Elite Deletion match. Matt Hardy won the cinematic style match to finally end the feud.
As expected, there were a handful of crazy moments from the match. Two of the biggest surprises were “Hurricane” Shane Helms and Gangrel appearing.
The stipulation was if MJF won, he could join the Inner Circle. After using some dirty tactics, MJF was able to secure the win.
It will be interesting to see how the Inner Circle reacts. There has been talk of the stable turning on Jericho.
In the main event, Jon Moxley kept his title by making Eddie Kingston quit. The match was barbaric, with Moxley using a bulldog choke with barbed wire for the win.
The pay per view closed with Omega coming out and staring down Moxley.
