DWTS Producer Reveals The Real Reason Host Tom Bergeron Was Fired & Replaced By Tyra Banks, And It’s Heartbreaking

Fans of the long-running ABC reality show “Dancing With The Stars” got the shock of their lives back in July, when host Tom Bergeron was fired and replaced by supermodel Tyra Banks. The change shook the DWTS community to its core as Emmy-winning host Tom Bergeron had been at the helm ever since its premiere way back in 2005. 

DWTS Producer Explains Why Tom Bergeron Was Fired

On Wednesday, an executive producer of “Dancing With The Stars” spoke out to reveal the real reason why Tom Bergeron and his cohost Erin Andrews were fired.

Despite the fact that fans have been hitting the show with backlash for the firings for months, it does not seem like the show runners regret the decision. 

“It’s about evolution,” producer Andrew Llinares said, according to Yahoo News. “When a show has been on for this many seasons, it’s very easy to stay in a place where there’s nothing wrong, but actually does the show feel fresh, exciting and new? It’s tough. I’ve worked on many shows of this type and we’ve always been at our most successful when we continue to move things on.”

So essentially, it was out with the old and in with the new on DWTS. 

“We wanted to make the show feel relevant but still hold on to the heart of the show,” Llinares added. “You can make very significant changes as long as the format stays true. The changes hopefully make the show feel like it speaks to a younger audience, broader audience, while not alienating anyone who has been watching the show for many, many years. That’s been the challenge.”

Producer Praises New Host Tyra Banks

Llinares went on to praise Banks, who has also signed on as one of his fellow executive producers.

Fans have widely panned Banks as a host, yet he still claimed that she was doing a good job. 

“I think it’s really refreshed the pace of the show. It’s taken it to a new place, in terms of moving fast and feeling different. I think that there’s a real danger when a show has been on for a long time that the audience almost gets bored of the rhythm of it. It doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with it, just that it gets a little boring,” he said. “I think it’s changed the rhythm of the show in a really exciting way. I think Tyra is doing an amazing, amazing job. It’s been wonderful having her energy in the ballroom and her expertise as a host in the ballroom. She’s brought a new life to everything.”

DWTS Fans Are Not As Impressed With Tyra Banks

When the new season of the show premiered earlier this month, fans let it be known that Tyra Banks could not hold a candle to Tom Bergeron as DWTS host.

It’s sad to see such a seasoned and talented television personality like Tom Bergeron be shoved out the door in such a tasteless way.

So far, their choice in Tyra Banks as the new DWTS host doesn’t seem to be yielding much.
