Dustin Poirier Responds to Conor McGregor’s 2020 Demand

Provided the UFC is willing to move up its plans for Conor McGregor versus Dustin Poirier 2, it looks like the rematch might just happen, and soon.

Poirier responds to McGregor’s 2020 demand

Recently McGregor turned heads throughout combat sports when he challenged Poirier to fight, but for charity, and not in the UFC. Poirier said he was on board with the idea, but not long after, Dana White reported the UFC had sent out offers for an official bout. 

On Thursday, McGregor jumped back into the headlines by telling Poirier he’s agreed to the fight, but only if it takes place this year.

So what was Poirier’s reaction? The former interim lightweight champ, who was stopped by McGregor in 2014, tweeted out this.

We’ll get it worked out! Good man, We will use the donation to open a Boxing/MMA Academy on the side of town me and @dc_mma grew up were the tuition for the kids will be good grades.

And in addition, while responding to McGregor’s head coach, John Kavanagh, “The Diamond” posted this.

It’s looking good?

Now, until the fight’s announced, no one should be getting too excited. After all, McGregor is one of the biggest names in combat sports, so, finalizing any of his fights is probably complicated.

But given both UFC 255 on November 21st and UFC 256 on December 12th have recently lost all-star fights, would think that the UFC will take a long look at moving McGregor – Poirier 2 to either of these cards. The UFC also has a card planned for December 19th.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani is reporting the UFC wanted to have McGregor and Poirier fight on January 23rd. 

Cody Garbrandt is no longer fighting flyweight champ Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255 due to a bicep’s injury. While Alex Perez is stepping in for him, he doesn’t have the following the former bantamweight champ does.

UFC 256, meanwhile, has lost its original headliner, as Kamaru Usman will not be ready to battle Gilbert Burns. The welterweight champ is still recovering from injuries and the fight’s been postponed.
