Ben Rothwell’s hometown of Kenosha, Wisconsin has been in the news, following the police shooting of Jacob Blake and the resulting protests. Recently the UFC heavyweight spoke out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and the massive fighter also called for compassion and unity.
The 38-year-old Rothwell, who has a gym in Kenosha., recently posted the image and comments below.
“I found this really helpful, I hope we can come together and have some understanding. Listen-Learn-Apply.”
“I do not support organizations, violence, or destruction. I support the movement for change.
I’m just trying to support my friends and have a better understanding of what people are going through and why they feel what they do. I’m looking for unity and instead I see nothing but division.
“I had many great conversations that brought me here, all I ask is everyone bashing me should go and speak with others to understand what they are going through and why they feel what they are.
Listen, be compassionate and see if you feel differently after. #unity”
Rothwell’s comments come not long after UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya voiced his support for NBA players who decided not to plays games, in protest of Blake’s shooting. Blake was left paralyzed from the gunfire he took.
The veteran fighter is currently booked to take on Marcin Tybura on October 10th. Rothwell (38-12) is coming off a split decision win over Ovince Saint Preux in May.
Prior to that win, Rothwell stopped Stefan Struve in December. That victory snapped the heavyweight’s three fight losing skid.
