Surprise Details From TakeOver

TakeOver XXX was broadcast Saturday, and as usual, it was exceptional. We now have some surprise details from TakeOver.

Surprise Details From TakeOver

Specifically, some insight behind the match between Adam Cole and ex-NFL punter Pat McAfee. For those who somehow missed it, this was McAfee’s professional wrestling debut.

So how shocking would it be to learn that it seems the pair did no rehearsal? Like we said, it’s some surprise details from TakeOver.

It is not unusual for wrestlers to walk through a match ahead of time. Some may be more extensively rehearsed.

This one was not.

According to the Wrestling Observer, the pair did not take part in any pre-match rehearsal.

To me, that makes what they gave us Saturday even more impressive. I have already said that McAfee had a very impressive debut.

His debut was arguably more impressive than Dominik’s on Sunday, all things considered.

Now, to have worked that match with Adam Cole, having it effectively called as it went and with no in-ring prep?

Much respect to both performers. The performance got some interesting posts on social media, too.

Former WWE Superstar James Ellsworth thinks they should pay the punter:

Britt Baker (Adam Cole’s better half) had this to say about Ellsworth’s idea…

I have to agree with her. As impressive as Pat’s debut was, I have to believe that a seasoned veteran like Adam Cole did a lot of the heavy lifting.

In other words, I think a ton of credit is due to Adam Cole for making that match what it was.

Sonya Deville – Mandy Rose Future

Leading up to SummerSlam, we were expecting a hair versus hair match. That changed, and we have some news on the Sonya Deville-Mandy Rose stipulation changing.

Not just a small change either, going from hair versus hair to a loser leaves WWE match.

So, the Wrestling Observer has offered some possible insight. If you guessed the change may have had something to do with recent events, you’d be right.

For anyone who may have missed it, Sonya Deville was the victim of an attempted kidnapping just over a week ago.

As we later learned, Mandy Rose was actually at the home during the incident as well.

So, per the Observer, the belief is that Sonya Deville’s lawyer recommended no drastic changes (such as chopping off her hair) while the case unfolds.

Further, the thinking is that Deville is going to be taking time away from WWE to handle her case. Having her lose a “loser leaves WWE” match was a good way to give her the time off.

Of course, she may be lined up to be a part of the upcoming WWE draft, which could bring her back to RAW or even NXT.

Though, perhaps calling the stipulation a “loser leaves SmackDown” match would have made more sense? Also might have been too obvious.

Still, can you imagine Deville heading to RAW Underground?
