Rioters Behead One Christopher Columbus Statue And Drag Another Into Lake
Black Lives Matter protestors in Boston and Richmond destroyed Christopher Columbus statues overnight in the wake of George Floyd's death.
Leftwing activists have been targeting Christopher Columbus for the past few years. Some are now using the riots following George Floyd’s death as an opportunity to destroy the explorer’s statues. One in Richmond, Virginia was removed by protesters and thrown in a lake while another Christopher Columbus statue in Boston was beheaded.
Richmond Christopher Columbus Statue Set Ablaze And Tossed In Lake
Following last weekend’s riots, the Democrat Mayor of Richmond and the Governor of Virginia announced Robert E. Lee’s statue as well as other Confederate statues would be removed from the capital city.

But that wasn’t enough for local protesters. Richmond protesters came for Christopher Columbus with a mind towards destruction.
From The Hill:
The 8-foot-tall memorial to the explorer in Richmond, Va., was pulled down with ropes and dragged roughly 200 yards to nearby Landing at Foundation Lake, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. It was also reportedly briefly lit on fire.
The base of the statue was covered in graffiti, and protesters held signs reading “This land is Powhatan land” and “Columbus represents genocide.”
A makeshift headstone poster was also placed in front of the sunken statute in the water that read, “Racism. You will not be missed.”
After it was taken down, the statue was dragged and rolled into the nearby pond.

Christopher Columbus has nothing to do with George Floyd, but nothing seems to make sense amidst the current chaos. These protesters are claiming the removal of the Columbus statues is an act of solidarity with indigenous people.

Boston Christopher Columbus Statue Beheaded
Meanwhile, in Boston Black Lives Matter protesters beheaded a Christopher Columbus statue in the City’s North End. This act of destruction may be permanent.
Mayor Marty Walsh said the statue will be removed and put into storage until a decision can be made regarding its future.
So basically, the Democrat Mayor just caved to a violent mob that is willing to destroy in order to get what they want.

Both acts of destruction in Boston and Richmond were applauded by the activists these politicians are appeasing. Removing the statue is only going to encourage more violent behavior. They are rewarding the rioters.

An Attack On Italian-Americans
This is setting up these Democrat politicians for a battle with constituents of Italian descent.
Christopher Columbus is celebrated by Italian-Americans. Columbus Day is Italian American Heritage Day with parades honoring the explorer and Italian culture throughout the country.

Italian-Americans faced widespread discrimination and the acceptance of Columbus Day at the federal government was a signal that they belonged. It is something that has been passed down through the generations.
Taking aim at Columbus may appease the rioters for a moment but it very well could have long term consequences at the ballot box.
It also will likely fuel more destruction during the protests.
