Dominick Reyes Talks Jon Jones Rematch, Doesn’t Believe Champ “Wants These Hands Again”

Since many people scored the Dominick Reyes’ memorable bout with Jon Jones for him, there’s been widespread calls for the light-heavyweights to fight again. But, according to Reyes, due to what transpired in their February scrap, the champ is dragging his feet on a rematch.

Reyes says Jones doesn’t “want these hands” for a second time

Jones and Reyes threw down in the headliner of UFC 247, which took place on February 8th. Heading into the bout, “Bones” was a massive favorite to beat Reyes.

But, to the surprise of many, Reyes cracked Jones with some heavy shots early on into the fight, and the consensus seemed to be he won the first three rounds (case in point, Dan White scored it for Reyes).

The judges saw it differently, however, and Jones received the decision win.

Well, due to what transpired, there’s been no shortage of calls for a rematch. While it remains to be seen if it happens, recently Reyes told MMA Junkie this.

“I know the UFC is on board,” Reyes said. “I know I’m on board. The issue is Jon right now.

He’s going to say he’s down online, obviously on Twitter. When he gets those contracts in front of him, he’s a little different. That’s where we’re at.”

“It was a straight dog fight, brother,” Reyes said. “The last fight was a pure dog fight. I don’t think he wants to do that again.

I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t think he wants these hands again. He doesn’t want to get in this dog fight with me. That’s where we’re at.”

So, will the fight happen? Aside from the coronavirus pandemic, in terms of when UFC cards will resume, it’s hard to say.

As noted above, there’s no question a lot of people want to see Jones – Reyes II. But, following Jan Blachowicz’s KO win over Corey Anderson in February, it seemed like Jones was leaning towards fighting him over Reyes.

Ultimately it could come down to the fans, and who they call on Jones to face next.

Reyes still believes he was “robbed”

And has Reyes changed his mind in recent recent weeks? In terms of whether he believes he beat Jones at UFC 247?

Clearly not.

“Well, (expletive), man,” Reyes said. “I feel like I was wronged on Feb. 8.

I’m not OK with that. I’m not just living my life like, ‘Oh yeah. It’s cool. I got robbed. I’m not going to do anything about it.

I want to rematch him. I want to fight him again with judges who are a little more competent.”

While not everyone necessarily believes Reyes was “robbed”, you can certainly understand why he wants to run it back. Hopefully we get to see Jones – Reyes II sometime in the not too distant future.
