Cain Velasquez Gerald Brisco

Cain Velasquez And Gerald Brisco Released By WWE

While we had a substantial number of releases already, the releases are expected to continue in the weeks to come. Some of the latest wrestlers and backstage staff fired by the WWE are none other than former UFC fighter Cain Velasquez and WWE Hall of Famer Gerald Brisco.

Cain Velasquez Released After Single Match

Cain Velasquez was released from his contract

Even though he obtained a monster contract from the WWE, the former UFC fighter did not wrestle more than a single match. In fact, he was only used once during the Saudi Arabia pay-per-view Crown Jewel.

Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio responded to the release rumors shortly after they appeared:

“They haven’t used him since Saudi Arabia. He was on a giant contract so yeah, that’s pretty much it. It was a multi-year deal. Just like everyone else he signed a giant deal and one of the things about those deals is they have the right to cut people.”

What Will Happen To Cain Velasquez?

Former UFC fighter Cain Velasquez released from the WWE

We are sure that being released in the middle of a pandemic will not sit good with the former UFC fighter, even though he will not experience any financial woes. While it is unlikely that we will see Cain Velasquez in the WWE again, I would not rule it out completely due to his bond with Rey Mysterio.

Gerald Brisco Allegedly Part Of Staff Cuts

Was Gerald Brisco Released By The WWE?

Dave Meltzer from Wrestling Observer Radio now claims that Gerald Brisco was among the people who were released on Black Wednesday. While we could not find official confirmation, the story was picked up by several major wrestling sites.

During the releases on Black Wednesday, Gerald Brisco took to Twitter. He encouraged released talent to look to the future.

Now, it seems Brisco is among the released talent. As Brisco is 73 years old, his release would come as a real shock.

WWE’s Image Problem After Mass Staff Releases

Vince McMahon Donald Trump

The WWE is currently experiencing an image problem due to the staff releases. Huge profits were released for the company, making fans even more furious about the releases.

Considering how the WWE handled the situation, their image issue is the least of their worries. In fact, the “essential business” status of the company could have some serious consequences.

Even someone who does not know much about politics or the current pandemic knows that the “essential business” status of the WWE is a sham. In fact, many believed Trump had a hand in the status change.

Despite the current pandemic, the WWE managed to continue its operations without question. While other businesses were forced to close around the world, the WWE remained operational.

Being an “essential business” did not help talent though, as they were still fired for the sake of bigger profits. I wonder if the WWE will have to answer for anything it has done?

Trump is still in office, so I doubt there will be serious consequences for the company. However, maybe the case of the WWE will have consequences for the current POTUS Donald Trump, who may have acted with a conflict of interest in play.
