Heading into WWE’s WrestleMania 36, we have heard we would be getting another Undertaker match. Things have begun to come into focus. Initial rumors and reports indicated we would see The Phenom work with AJ Styles. That match was set in motion first by Styles talking the talk.
Things escalated at the most recent Super ShowDown, as The Undertaker made the trip to the Middle East in order to surprise Styles. Last night at Elimination Chamber, things once again moved forward, but with a twist.
During a no DQ match between Aleister Black and AJ Styles, AJ got help from his OC buddies. With things looking bleak for Black, the gong sounded and the lights faded. When the arena lights came back up, The Undertaker had both Gallows and Anderson by the throats. Ultimately, Undertaker turned his attention to Styles, delivering a choke slam to the Phenomenal One.
Now, we are hearing that having Gallows and Anderson involved may not be by accident. Specifically, multiple sources are reporting that we could get The Undertaker working against AJ Styles, but in a tag match.
We are used to seeing The Dead Man work solo on The Grandest Stage of Them All, but this might be the smart play. He is not getting any younger, and is very much a part-time worker. Styles could certainly work a solid match with him, but a tag match is a different idea all together.
For one, it lets them do more with ‘Taker, without relying solely on him and AJ. Assuming it becomes a six man match, outside of Black, the babyface third would be interesting to see determined. The easiest could be fellow part-timer Kane, allowing the Brothers of Destruction to reunite once again. Another option could be Ricochet, who had teamed with Aleister Black last year when the pair made their main roster debuts.
In any case, I do think a tag match in that configuration could be good for a couple reasons. First, we could get a stronger match of better quality. Second, in terms of current talent, Aleister Black is one of a few who has parallels to The Undertaker. It would be nice to give Black a bit of a rub too.
While last night’s Elimination Chamber set up the RAW Women’s Championship match in Tampa, the SmackDown side is still undetermined.
One option being considered had been Bayley to battle on again off again on again BFF Sasha Banks, but that has not materialized.
Another option that had been appearing to be lining up was to see Bayley fight Naomi. That wouldn’t have been a bad option, but it sounds like Creative is changing things up in a big way.
Specifically, we are hearing that instead of a one on one bout, Bayley will be defending the championship in a six pack challenge match. So far, the rumored participants include Carmella, Naomi, Lacey Evans and Sasha Banks.
