School Bus Assault of boy over Trump hat in Florida

Last week, we were one of the few outlets to report on a video that showed a teenage boy being assaulted on a school bus for wearing a Trump 2020 hat. Since that report, five students have been arrested for the vicious attack. And more outlets, including Fox News and Daily Mail, have picked up the story.

Five Students Arrested For School Bus Assault

As previously reported, a 14 year-old boy identified only as ‘Tyler’ was assaulted in Hamilton County, Florida on November 21. The school bus assault was captured on video and allegedly triggered by the boy’s support of President Donald Trump.

Since video of the incident surfaced, the Daily Mail reports that Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of the five perpetrators. The teens are charged with first-degree misdemeanor battery.

In a perplexing twist, the Florida State Attorney’s Office is not treating the incident as a hate crime.

This is despite Tyler’s mother’s contention that his Trump 2020 hat lead to the assault. A claim which the school district denies is the case.

School District Says School Bus Assault Was NOT Hate Crime

“It is implied in the post that the altercation occurred because one of the students involved was wearing a political hat showing support for President Trump,” said Superintendent Rex L. Mitchell.

“There was no evidence found during the investigation that indicated the student was wearing any of this apparel at the time of the altercation or that his wearing of such apparel on a prior occasion motivated the incident.”

The Superintendent added, “the incident began with a verbal altercation between two students that escalated when additional students became involved.”

Mitchell went on to say that the district had thoroughly reviewed the footage of the assault.

“We absolutely do not condone the use of physical force between students,” Mitchell emphasized. “This was a very unfortunate incident completely unrelated to any political statements or agendas.”

Tyler’s Mother Clarifies How Trump Support Made Him a ‘Target’

This comes after Tyler’s mother took to social media to reaffirm her contention. The mother says she is positive that her son’s Trump 2020 hat which led to him being assaulted.

“To be clear, my son bought his Trump 2020 hat with his own money at the flea market a few weeks ago,” Tyler’s mother, a Trump supporter herself, wrote on Twitter. “He was proud to wear it. He wore it to School, but due to immediate bullying he put it away & didn’t wear it to school again, sadly the damage was already done & [he] was now a target.”

“From that point on he was steadily getting messed with. He was getting hit, tripped & verbally abused on the bus, but it all came to a head yesterday on his bus ride home,” she added.

Tyler’s mother doubled down on her hate crime position with a second reason. She thinks it was a hate crime because Tyler is white and his attackers were black.

“Plain and simple this was a hate crime and attempted murder according to the state of Florida since it was over three kids that jumped him and these kids are older and larger,” she said.

The mother said that her son has been left emotionally distraught from the attack. And that “he is crying most days.”

My Take

Despite what the school district said, I think it’s clear that this was a hate crime against a Trump supporter.

Had a group of Trump supporters assaulted a liberal for his political beliefs, they undoubtedly would have been charged with hate crimes. And the story would be all over the media.

Since it was liberals assaulting a Trump supporter, however, everyone is trying to sweep it under the rug.

That being said, we’re glad that the perpetrators were arrested, and we hope the judge throws the book at them.
