WWE Changing Policy About Releasing Talent? + Marty Scurll’s Future

Future WWE To Possibly Change Policy About Releasing Talent

With All Elite Wrestling (AEW) looking like a threat to WWE, the number of releases from the largest wrestling promotion has significantly dropped. While WWE was against releasing talent because they might join AEW, that idea is starting to change.

In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it noted how WWE is opening up to the idea of letting talent go. Although, the releases would only be granted if WWE believed the wrestlers would not join AEW.

Since AEW was created, former WWE Superstars such as Shawn Spears, Dustin Rhodes and Jake Hager have jumped ship. WWE might not have seen the full potential in those superstars, but AEW has been featuring them on a weekly basis and they remain part of the biggest storylines currently going on.

Several wrestlers have taken to Twitter to announce they have requested their release. This include the likes of Mike Kanellis, Sin Cara and Luke Harper. As of now, WWE has not granted those releases and the superstars remain off TV.

WWE has been able to re-sign some of their biggest names such as Randy Orton, AJ Styles, Sasha Banks and The Usos. At the same time, they are still working out the details with the likes of The Revival and other names.

Marty Scurll’s Fielding Offers

Speaking of signing names, there will be a big free agent in the very near future. The contract for Ring of Honor’s (ROH) Marty Scurll is up in two weeks and there is lots of interest all around.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted how the contract expires on November 30. Right now, AEW, WWE and ROH are all trying to lock the wrestler down.

In the report, it stated that ROH was making a strong offer as they do not want to lose one of their biggest stars. Since AEW came along, ROH lost several of their top names. As for WWE, they know that Scurll is a known name and he would be an easy fit for a top spot on the NXT brand.

The general belief was that Scurll would sign with AEW as many of friends work there as wrestlers and executives. Whatever happens, the next few weeks are going to be busy for “The Villain.”
