Clint Eastwood Exposes Fake News Media In Latest Movie, “Richard Jewell”

Clint Eastwood’s latest movie details the true story of the “media lynching” of Richard Jewell, the hero who saved countless lives during the bombing at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympic Games. The security guard was tried and convicted in the press for being the bomber. But, they got it all wrong. He was vindicated, but Jewell’s life had been ruined by these unethical media hounds.

This movie is incredibly timely as the fake news media has been battling Donald Trump since before he won the presidency. The President has been exposing the media’s lies ever since.

Now movie goers can see a real life example of how the media can turn on an average Joe. And destroy his life, too.

The Real Story Of Richard Jewell

Jewell successfully cleared the huge crowd in Centennial Park after a call was received about a pipe bomb.

His quick action and leadership resulted in only one person being killed and 111 being injured. If Jewell hadn’t acted, those numbers could have been astoundingly magnified.

But, aggressive journalists who were looking for a scoop at all costs targeted Richard Jewell as the FBI investigated him.

Jewell was cleared three months later but never fully recovered from the media smearing his good name and heroic deed. Eric Rudolph later pled guilty to the bombing.

Clint Eastwood Exposes The Media Mob In “Richard Jewell”

The 89-year-old A-List actor turned movie producer is now exposing the media for its role in this tragedy. He is apparently ruthless in his depiction of the media thirst for a story at all costs as The Hollywood Reporter details.

Most Hollywood films about journalism since All the President’s Men 43 years ago have taken the free press’ side, portraying it as a scruffy if noble institution essential to the well-being of democracy. Eastwood and screenwriter Billy Ray (The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips) here take a rather different view of the Fourth Estate, portraying it as reckless, corrupt and immoral. At the center of its frenzy is the hapless and clueless Jewell, an overweight oddball who may well be the least likely leading man in any of Eastwood’s 40 — count ‘em, 40 — films as a director, but Paul Walter Hauser makes the most of it.

The mob of reporters covering the story resembles a plague of locusts, with any little tidbit being transformed into big news as the media tries to finger a culprit. Jewell, along with his mother, must endure this combination of attack and deprivation for three months until, finally, the FBI realizes that, from a purely logistical point of view, the young man couldn’t have physically pulled off what they believed he did.

It seems the media hasn’t learned much from this case or perhaps they forgot. This movie should remind everyone of the destruction the media has caused as the 2020 presidential election ramps up.
