Former UFC Champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk Sets Sights on “Female BMF” Title

During her UFC run, Joanna Jedrzejczyk has established herself as one of the most ferocious, tough and talented female fighters on the planet. While the former strawweight champ has made it clear she intends to win back that belt, Jedrzejczyk has also set her sights on securing the female, ‘BMF’ title too…

Jedrzejczyk’s wants to be the female ‘BMF’ 

As it stands right now, the MMA world is waiting to see when and who the 32-year-old Jedrzejczyk will fight next. The Polish star is coming off a decision win over Michelle Waterson in October, which marked her return to the strawweight division.

Jedrzejczyk moved up to 125 last December to challenge Valentina Shevchenko for the then, vacant flyweight title, but lost the bout via UD.

Well, recently the decorated Muay Thai competitor spoke with Tom Taylor from the South China Morning Post. While discussing her teammate Jorge Masvidal’s win over Nate Diaz at UFC 244 earlier this month, which delivered “Gamebred” the ‘BMF’ belt, Jedrzejczyk said this:

“People used to call me violent, savage,” Jedrzjecyzk sad. “Jorge [Masvidal] just won the belt – the baddest [expletive] belt. I want to be the female BMF.”

How about that? Chances are a lot of people would have Jedrzejczyk on the shortlist for the female ‘BMF’ right?

Jedrzejczyk includes Ronda Rousey as a ‘BMF’ frontrunner

Speaking of lists, who else might be on it? Well, while discussing that very subject, the charismatic fighter said this:

“These [other] girls can make it, they can win the belt, but there’s nobody like Ronda Rousey, [nobody] like me,” Jedrzejczyk said.

“People can doubt me, and they’ll do that forever, but show me a better, cleaner fighter in the UFC or in general. Of course, Amanda Nunes is the GOAT [greatest of all time] right now, but Ronda Rousey had six successful title defences, me, five. Rose [Namajunas]? One title defence. Jessica [Andrade] couldn’t defend the title.”

Now, it will be interesting to see whether people agree with Jedrzejczyk’s comments about Rousey here. While there’s no denying that Rousey had a ridiculously, memorable and largely successful run with the UFC. She did suffer consecutive, KO losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes before exiting the sport.

Those losses prompted a narrative, accurate or not, questioning Rousey’s training regiment and ability to deal with high-level strikers. The fact she moved onto professional wrestling, may also remove her from the ‘BMF’ discussion with hardcore, combat sports fans.
