Ellen Won’t Apologize For George W. Bush Friendship Despite Liberal Firestorm

Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres spoke out to defend her friendship with George W. Bush after liberals slammed her for sitting next to Dubya at a football game. Liberals might want to check themselves if their online mob mentality has gotten so out of a hand that one of their celebrity pioneers for progressive rights is forced to preach tolerance at her fellow Liberals. Bush then responded to Ellen expressing his appreciation for her defense of their friendship.

Ellen Defends Bush Friendship

Fox News reported that Ellen explained to her audience on Monday that she and her wife Portia de Rossi were invited to a Dallas Cowboys football game by Charlotte Jones, daughter of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. There, she sat next to President Bush and his wife, former First Lady Laura Bush.

“When we were invited, I was aware that I was going to be surrounded with people from very different views and beliefs. And I’m not talking about politics… I was rooting for the Packers,” Ellen joked. “So I had to hide my cheese hat in Portia’s purse.”

Ellen went on to say that she received tons of criticism from liberals on social media because she dared to sit next to a former conservative president at the football game.

“People were upset,” the comedian said. “They thought, why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president?… A lot of people were mad. And they did what people do when they’re mad… they tweet.”

The comedian went on to read a tweet that said, “Ellen and George Bush together makes me have faith in America again,” which caused her audience to applaud.

Ellen Preaches Tolerance To Liberals

“Here’s the thing: I’m friends with George Bush. In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have,” DeGeneres continued. “We’re all different and I think that we’ve forgotten that that’s okay that we’re all different… but just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean that I’m not going to be friends with them.”

“When I say, ‘Be kind to one another,’ I don’t mean only the people that think the same way that you do. I mean be kind to everyone. Doesn’t matter,” she added.

Ellen concluded the segment by thanking Charlotte and Jerry Jones as well as George and Laura Bush. Noting that it was a “Sunday afternoon that was so fun,” but also making sure to add that they owe her “six dollars for the nachos.”

Bush Thanks Ellen

Bush responded on Tuesday through a spokesman who said Ellen’s comments were “appreciated.”

“President and Mrs. Bush really enjoyed being with Ellen and Portia (de Rossi) and appreciated Ellen’s comments about respecting one another,” the spokesman said. “They respect her. ”

The fact Ellen got backlash for simply associating with Bush is an unfortunate example of just how closed-minded modern liberals have become. We applaud Ellen for refusing to apologize to the left for having a friendship with a conservative. And for reminding online hate mobs of the importance in keeping an open mind to people who have views that differ from their own. After all, their America is built on people from all walks of life and supposedly celebrates our differences. Right?

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
