ONE female atomweight champion Angela Lee knows she has the ultimate challenge to her throne set in front of her this weekend at ONE: CENTURY.
Lee will put her belt on the line against ONE strawweight champion Xiong Jing Nan in the main event live on TNT from Tokyo, Japan.
To get herself ready for the bout, Lee trained with her family – which includes ONE lightweight champion and fellow ONE: CENTURY competitor Christian Lee – at the Hawaii-based United MMA Gym.
Over the course of her short – but successful career – Lee has learned the keys to staying as fresh and ready for action as possible. Related: ONE: CENTURY To Feature Several Title Fights, Grand Prix Finals
“I think it is important for every athlete to have some days where you are able to rest and recover,” Lee said. “As professional athletes, we push our bodies so hard during training and we ask a lot of it.”
Lee is unbeaten over seven fights at atomweight, but has dropped a pair of bouts at strawweight this year. She first claimed the ONE belt in 2016 with a decision over Mei Yamaguchi and has earned successful defenses vs. Yamaguchi, Jenny Huang and Istela Nunes.
“Let your body recover, your muscles recover and then you can come back from it fresh and train hard some more,” Lee said. “I think (recovery) is pretty vital.”
