Why Did The WWE Book Kofi Kingston Vs. Brock Lesnar?
SmackDown is set to debut on FOX October 4 and the WWE is bringing out the big guns for the first episode on the new network.
Kofi Kingston will defend his WWE title against former champion Brock Lesnar in the main event, booking the match after Lesnar appeared on a recent edition of SmackDown to challenge Kingston.
According to a report by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the reason behind bringing Lesnar to FOX and SmackDown was to give the show a “legit sports feel.” Lesnar, a former UFC heavyweight champion who tried out for the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, returned to the WWE in 2012 and has held the top title numerous times and been involved in feuds with The Undertaker, John Cena, Seth Rollins and others since.
The report also mentions former UFC female champion and WWE champion Ronda Rousey, saying that “FOX will get Lesnar since there is no Rousey now.” Rousey took a break from pro wrestling earlier this year to focus on starting a career with husband and fighter Travis Browne.
Lesnar is also scheduled to appear at an upcoming episode of RAW and has a face-to-face in November planned with Kingston.
What Will WWE Do With Maria Kanellis Pregnancy Angle?
Maria Kanellis is pregnant, and the WWE is running with an angle that her husband, Mike Kanellis, is not the father. The storyline was used this past Monday on RAW to bring Rusev back to the active roster, but according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rusev is “not the answer” to the mystery.
Instead, the angle will be drawn out, as the WWE is hoping to get a rating boost from it. The report also indicates it will be more of a “running joke” than an actual angle.
Kanellis posted on her social media page that she is 20 weeks pregnant recently.
The Kanellis family currently has one child, a girl named Fredrica “Freddie” Moon Bennett born in 2018. The two have been married since 2014 after a two-year engagement, with the couple announcing their second child during a RAW match with Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in July.
Maria Kanellis is a former WWE 24/7 champion and captured the 2009 Slammy Award for Diva of the Year. She also previously held the TNA Knockouts championship. Mike Kanellis has held the 24/7 championship twice and competes on both RAW and 205 Live. He has also held the IWGP tag team titles and is a former TNA X Division champion.
