Brock Lesnar’s Future Role in WWE Programming?

According to the latest reports, Brock Lesnar has signed with the WWE until May 2020. Unfortunately, that does mean that a lot of WWE programming could still involve The Beast.

On the flipside, it seems that the WWE has zero ideas on what to do with Lesnar at the moment. Here is how the WWE have worked themselves into a corner, and my unorthodox solution to the problem.

All Powerful Brock Lesnar

The problem with Brock is that the WWE have built him as a conqueror who can go through any opponent with little trouble. He has beaten competitors such as Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, Finn Balor, Daniel Bryan, and even Seth Rollins.

There are really no competitors left that could take Brock Lesnar on because fans already expect Lesnar to win. It also means that the runup to the match has zero excitement.

The only way for the WWE to move forward with Brock Lesnar would include putting a title on him. However, nobody really wants that. Who would want part-time Lesnar to be Universal Champion again for several months with minimal appearances?

In other words, the WWE have backed themselves into a corner with Lesnar. After all, his matches are not that great. While he has been trying a little more lately – I do give him that – it is too little, too late for most fans.

How To Solve The Brock Lesnar Problem

If it were me, I would let the contract run out. There are some genuine competitors that could take him on and win believably though, although these men are now in NXT. I am talking about Johnny Gargano, Tomasso Ciampa, and Adam Cole. However, I would not want to put these men in a ring with Lesnar. After all, if Lesnar has an off day, it could make their main roster debut horrible.

When you look at it from a pure business perspective, the WWE has overpaid for Lesnar. While they might argue that he puts people in seats, I doubt that is really the case. After all, the attendance numbers during his respective reigns kept dropping dramatically. The WWE is eager to blame the extra attention on the women’s division for this, but I am more inclined to believe that an absent Universal Champion was the cause.

Of course, there is one man I believe has the presence and the power to take on Lesnar in the ring and come out of it with no negative repercussions. That man is Walter, also known as the Ring General. He is the current WWE UK Champion and is frankly one of the most frightening men I have seen in the ring. Walter also has extensive experience and a gimmick that will click with the Universe. This is the only match-up I would be excited for. If you are not yet familiar with Walter, then I urge you to check out NXT UK and get familiar with him and his faction.

What other possible opponents would you suggest for Brock Lesnar until his contract expires?
