Steve Irwin’s Daughter, Bindi Irwin, Gets Engaged to Longtime Love

After more than five years of dating, Steve Irwin’s daughter Bindi Irwin just got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, professional wakeboarder Chandler Powell.

Powell, 22, asked Bindi to be his wife on the “Dancing with the Stars” alum’s 21st birthday.

Bindi Irwin Shares Her Engagement Bliss With Fans

Bindi shared her excitement at finally being engaged in a post on Instagram.

“On my birthday I said ‘yes’ and ‘forever’ to the love of my life,” she wrote next to pictures of the couple. “Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you and every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure and true happiness. I’m so looking forwarding to spending our forever together as your wife. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose and unconditional love.—Now let’s get married already!”

Making the moment extra special, Chandler proposed at a place special to both him and Bindi: Australia Zoo.

Not only is Australia Zoo the legacy of Bindi’s father, Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, it’s also where the couple first met when they were both young teens.

Steve Irwin Will Be Missed

While the wedding is sure to be a happy day, it will certainly be bittersweet as Bindi’s dad won’t be there to walk the little girl that he adored so much down the aisle.

On September 4, 2006, Steve Irwin died in a tragic underwater incident. A stingray pierced him through the heart while filming, killing him instantly.

Along with her mother, Terri, and brother, Robert, the Irwins have kept the Australia Zoo’s commitment to wildlife conservation going.

While a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars,” Bindi performed a touching tribute to her father.

“I can remember being little and thinking, “I want to be just like Dad when I grow up. And I still feel like that,” Bindi says.

Despite Steve Irwin’s absence, Bindi and Chandler Powell aren’t letting any sadness overshadow their joy.

Bindi Isn’t The Only One Who’s Excited And Gushing

After proposing, Chandler also took to Instagram to share his joy about moving forward in life with Bindi at his side.

“Almost 6 years ago we met at Australia Zoo,” Powell wrote. “I immediately fell head over heels for her kind and thoughtful heart that radiates so much light. Proposing in her very favorite place in the zoo, surrounded by animals, seemed like the perfect way to embark on this incredible new chapter in our lives. Bee, I love you more than anything in this world and I always will. Happy Birthday.”

So far, no wedding date has been announced. Friends and family, as well as fans from around the world, are sure to look forward to the exciting event as Bindi and Chandler celebrate and share their big day.
