Justin Gaethje Lights up Conor McGregor on Twitter, After Latter Calls For Floyd Mayweather Jr. Rematch

It remains to be seen when and who Conor McGregor will fight next, but Justin Gaethje is doing his best to ensure the star faces one of the UFC’s top lightweight contenders.

Gaethje has been driving for a fight with McGregor for some time, but nothing has materialized. Now that the champ Khabib Nurmagomedov is officially set to face interim champ Dustin Poirier on September 7th, many believe McGregor will need to record a win in the Octagon, before he challenges for the title.

Well, this is where Gaethje could come in, especially since Tony Ferguson is booked to fight Donald Cerrone this Saturday at UFC 238. So, when McGregor recently challenged Floyd Mayweather Jr. to a rematch, Gaethje let the expletives fly (warning: explicit language below):

From a meritocratic perspective, a fight between McGregor and Gaethje makes a ton of sense. McGregor is ranked #3 in the UFC’s 155 division and Gaethje is #5. Further, Nate Diaz is set to fight Anthony Pettis on August 17th, who was another opponent that’s was repeatedly mentioned as a possibility for McGregor.

But, since Gaethje – McGregor wouldn’t be a championship bout, and therefore not a headliner, will McGregor sign on? If the UFC doesn’t come with a significant amount of money up-front, he may not. Especially now that the UFC’s pay-per-views have been moved to ESPN+.

McGregor boxed Mayweather Jr. in August, 2017, and was stopped by the decorated and undefeated pugilist in round ten.
