Yoel Romero Wins Massive Judgement in Tainted Supplement Lawsuit

Yoel Romero is in the news, but because of a fight in won in court rather than the Octagon.

ESPN has been informed by the UFC contender’s manager, Abe Kawa, that Romero has won $27.45 million dollars in the lawsuit he brought against the supplement company, Gold Star Performance Product.

The suit stems to Romero’s positive test for the growth hormone stimulant,  ibutamoren, back in 2015, which is a banned substance. Romero’s team was able to demonstrate that a Gold Star Performance Product supplement he was taking was tainted with the substance ( ibutamoren wasn’t listed as an ingredient). Romero received a reduced six-month suspension from USADA as a result.

Well, the company reportedly never responded to the suit, and as a result, Romero won the case by default. It’s also not clear, however, how much money the fighter will actually receive from the settlement. Kawa told ESPN that he believes Romero should receive at least $5 million from the settlement.

The powerful wrestler was quoted saying the following in the aforementioned report:

“I’m very happy. It’s not about the money. I’m very happy now that everything is clean and more clear. You cannot live very well when you hear and you see when you post something [on social media] people reply ‘Soldier of Steroids.’ You cannot sleep very well. … It’s very emotional and important, too, because I know I’ve never taken anything in my life.”

Romero (13-3) is preparing to face Paulo Costa at UFC 241, August 17th in Anaheim.
