Former Republican California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says he won’t press charges against the young man who violently assaulted the 71-year-old at a sporting event in Johannesburg, South Africa over the weekend.
Schwarzenegger was smiling, talking with attendees, and recording SnapChats at the event named for him, called “Arnold Classic Africa,” when he was drop-kicked from behind, directly in the middle of his back. But “The Terminator” barely moved — and wasn’t hurt(!) — as he seemed mostly surprised by the blow.
“Thanks for your concerns, but there is nothing to worry about,” Schwarzenegger tweeted as the video began to trend on social media. “I thought I was just jostled by the crowd, which happens a lot. I only realized I was kicked when I saw the video like all of you. I’m just glad the idiot didn’t interrupt my Snapchat.”
Afterward, Schwarzenegger tweeted he wouldn’t be pressing charges, but instead hopes the viral video helps promote the event.
“A lot of you have asked, but I’m not pressing charges,” Arnold wrote. “I hope this was a wake-up call, and he gets his life on the right track. But I’m moving on and I’d rather focus on the thousands of great athletes I met at @ArnoldSports Africa.”
Arnold Sports Festivals take place around the world and promote fitness for all, regardless of socioeconomic status or ability.
A lifetime of fitness certainly made the seven-time Mr. Olympia champion impervious to being kicked so hard. And Schwarzenegger taking the jolt and using the moment to promote the work that thousands involved with Arnold Sports are the right ways to handle the ordeal.
