Dean Ambrose's Wrestling Future

– Later tonight, Dean Ambrose will work the final date on his WWE contract as The Shield reunites for one final battle. Despite Ambrose leaving, Dave Meltzer stated during Wrestling Observer Radio that Ambrose is burnt out from WWE but a return down the road does seem likely.

“They expect him to come back and they wanna make it a big deal and when he’s ready to come back [and] he’s happy to come back and the fans see him as a big star,” said Meltzer. “He’s burned out and he’s unhappy. If he’s unhappy, then whatever he’s unhappy about probably isn’t going to change. If he’s burned out and needs a rest then he’ll probably come back.”

While All Elite Wrestling will make a play for Ambrose, WWE feels confident that he will not sign with the upstart promotion or appear at their Double Or Nothing event on May 25.

Typically when someone leaves WWE, the company does not make mention of it but they have done the total opposite for Ambrose. WWE respects how Ambrose has handled the situation and want him to return down the road, hence why they continued to treat him well; even after news broke that a new contract would not be signed.

Ambrose’s future will be a major story for the next several months, especially with AEW’s first show just over a month away.

– WWE has decided to scrap their Backlash show, which was to be June 16 from San Diego. The Wrestling Observer Radio noted how WWE does not want to have several major shows close together as their return to Saudi Arabia is now set for June 7.

No word if the June 8th Takeover card from San Jose or any live events that weekend will also be cancelled. With WWE making so much money from their 10 year deal with Saudi Arabia, that seems to be their top priority.
