During the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, leftwing pop star Katy Perry tried to upstage country music legend Dolly Parton. Unfortunately for Perry, this move did not end well for her, as she is now receiving tons of backlash for it.
Fox News reported that the awards show included a ten-minute tribute to Parton that was started by Perry, who was dressed as a cowgirl, and singer Kacey Musgraves. The two teamed up to sing Parton’s 1977 hit song “Here You Come Again,” and Parton herself stepped onstage to join them a few minutes in.
As the three sang together, Perry was particularly loud, and many noticed that she was “pitchy” and could not hit some of the high notes. Social media users were quick to call Perry out for ruining the tribute.
“I’ve seen war. I’ve seen violence. But I’ve never witnessed anything close to the barbaric murder Katy Perry just committed on Dolly Parton,” one social media user commented. Others questioned why a pop singer like Perry was even brought in to pay tribute to a country singer like Parton.

“Katy tried to make it her own. It was Dolly’s night to shine, and Katy should have respected that,” a backstage source said. The insider went on to say that Parton herself was furious at Perry for what she did.
“Dolly let the producers have it, because that was not the performance Katy gave during rehearsals,” the source said. “When she came out making all those weird hand gestures and singing out of pitch, everyone was like, ‘What?!’”
As for Perry, she reportedly felt no remorse about butchering the performance.
“Katy said she was just trying to stand out, and she didn’t want to be just another background singer for Dolly,” the source said. “But that is what she was there to do!”
It’s sad that Perry took a moment that was supposed to be about Parton and made it all about herself. Once again, Perry has shown here that she is just another self-absorbed entertainer who is completely out of touch with reality.
