Singer Susan Boyle hit the ground running during her first performance on the new season of “America’s Got Talent: The Champions.” The now-multiplatinum star was given the warmest of welcomes from the often critical Simon Cowell, whom Boyle blew away a decade ago.
“Susan, I’m genuinely beyond thrilled that you’re here tonight,” Cowell told Boyle as she took the stage.
This time, Boyle opted to cover Rolling Stones’ ballad “Wild Horses” in a nearly flawless performance.
“You know, Susan, I can’t think of any other contestant who has defined this show better than you,” Cowell said following her performance. “You’re The One.”
He continued, “You’ve made a huge difference in a lot of people’s lives and I’m absolutely thrilled that you’re here.”
Since rocketing to superstardom, Boyle, 57, has shared her personal struggles that held her back in life publicly.
In her intro, when asked if she saw herself a champion, she answered humbly, “A champion for people who maybe don’t have the confidence to do things. For those who maybe don’t have a voice, the ones who people tend to ignore. I feel I’m a champion for them.”
Judge Mel B, another fellow Briton, told Boyle it was “an absolute honor and a privilege to be sitting here and listening to you.”
“I want to be the woman that gives you something that you deserve,” Mel B continued before hitting the coveted golden buzzer, which moves particularly impressive contestants automatically to the finals.
Following the show, Ms. Boyle tweeted, “Truly speechless to have received the Golden Buzzer from @OfficialMelB on #AGTChampions! Hope you all enjoy this performance! See you in the finals!”
Susan Boyle is an incredible role model and an example of the opportunities that can follow when you put yourself out there!
