Thanks to some stellar wrestling credentials, Aaron Pico skipped over the whole “get experience in the minor leagues” thing and went straight to Bellator. And other than a loss via submission in his first outing, he’s pretty much dominated. But in the co-main event of Bellator 214 last night, Pico saw his status as “red hot prospect” cool down to maybe “lukewarm”, courtesy of a knockout at the hands of total nobody Henry Corrales.
Things started off just fine. Pico was measured, keen on throwing strikes, and probing for an opening. Which he found in the form of an uppercut that sent his opponent stumbling to the canvas. But Corrales got back up swinging hard, and the two simply stood inches away from each other, teeing off.
And that’s when Pico got slept.
There’s no denying that Pico was out cold. There’s also no denying that the kid is young and literally learning how to fight with the Bellator spotlight shining down brightly upon him.
I guess it’s back to the drawing board for Pico, and Bellator, who’s been hyping him like he could be a star.
