John Cena's Royal Rumble Status

– As of right now, the men’s Royal Rumble Match has two confirmed competitors in Drew McIntyre and R-Truth. There is still plenty of time to fill out the other 28 names, but one of WWE’s top stars might not be there. John Cena has another movie in the works and shooting begins on January 20. With the Royal Rumble pay per view the following week, Dave Meltzer stated during the Wrestling Observer Radio that there is a good chance Cena will not be there.

“I mean he starts the movie January 20th so that pretty much takes him out of the Royal Rumble,” said Meltzer. “So, if he’s not in the Royal Rumble then he has no ticket or direction for [WrestleMania 35].”

The past few years have seen Cena take a less active role in WWE as he looks to transition to Hollywood. WrestleMania 33 saw Cena work a tag team match and the following year he was squashed by Undertaker in match that was not confirmed until the event actually started. During Cena’s time as the top draw in WWE, he was always in world title matches at WrestleMania and often times closing the show.

We did learn on Monday’s taped RAW that Cena will be working some upcoming live event for WWE on both brands. In the past year, Cena had two successful movies come out in Blockers and Bumblebee. He has been Asia for the past few months working on his latest film.

– Speaking of Monday’s RAW, Ronda Rousey defeated Natalta in a good 15 minute match to remain RAW Women’s Champion. Meltzer mentioned how unlike all of Rouseuy’s other matches, this one was not choreographed and the two ladies called majority of the match on the spot.

The win keeps Rousey undefeated in WWE and she continues to evolve. With Rousey living up to the hype, there remains a decent chance that she will be part of the first ever WrestleMania main event. As for an opponent, the names Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch keeping popping up.
