UFC 229: Khabib Nurmagomedov Submits Conor McGregor, But Post-Fight Brawl Taints Win

Khabib Nurmagomedov worked his way to an impressive, submission win over Conor McGregor tonight at UFC 229, but a post-fight brawl will likely be the main story for the coming days.

Khabib shot moments into the headliner, and while McGregor defended at first, he would up end on his back. Nurmagomedov didn’t land much from the top position, but Conor spent nearly the entire frame from the bottom.

Shortly into round two, Nurmagomedov cracked McGregor with a huge right hand that sent him momentarily to the deck. Khabib swarmed in, scored a takedown, and proceeded to hammer McGregor with ground-and-pound strikes. McGregor managed to make it back to his feet, shortly before the round ended.

In round three, McGregor was able to keep it standing for most of the frame, and he managed to land some decent shots. Shortly into round four, however, Khabib took McGregor to the mat again. The lightweight champ moved into mount, and as McGregor attempted to scramble out, Nurmagomedov sunk in a neck-crank. Eventually McGregor tapped out.

But, after the bout, Nurmagomedov jumped the fence and appeared to confront McGregor’s teammate, Dillon Danis. Then all hell broke lose, and at one point, someone jumped the cage and attacked McGregor.
