Hollywood star Robert Redford has just announced that he is retiring after a career in film that spanned over six decades.
Fox News reported that the 82-year-old actor made this announcement while promoting his new movie “The Old Man & The Gun,” explaining that he thinks it is time for him to end his career.
“Never say never, but I pretty well concluded that this would be it for me in terms of acting, and [I’ll] move towards retirement after this ‘cause I’ve been doing it since I was 21. I thought, ‘Well, that’s enough,’” Redford said. “And why not go out with something that’s very upbeat and positive?”
Redford’s lengthy career in Hollywood has involved him doing more than just acting. In fact, he won a Best Director Academy Award for his 1980 movie Ordinary People. Though he received accolades as a director, he will likely most be remembered for his acting roles in such classics Hollywood films as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and All The President’s Men.
Sadly, like many other liberal Hollywood actors, Redford has allowed his outspoken political views to overshadow his career in the entertainment world in recent years. He spent many of his interviews in the past few years bashing President Donald Trump, causing the actor to lose many of his conservative fans.
“Right now it’s like Humpty Dumpty sitting on a wall, and a great fall is happening. The behavior seems to be really dumb,” Redford said last year, according to The Hill.
While we do not support Redford’s politics, we can’t deny that he brought us some of the best cinematic moments of the past sixty years. Enjoy your retirement, Mr. Redford!
