marine monkey drill

A video of a platoon of new Marines performing a monkey drill before their graduation at Parris Island is proof that the members of our military are the most dedicated and skilled in the world.

This is a trick drill as it’s completely improvised. They aren’t aware of what they are going to have to do next. They have to be completely comfortable with their weapons, tricks, and movements. They have to be coordinated with their fellow Marines even though they aren’t aware of the next move! The monkey drill is challenging and Marines can’t hesitate as the routine has to flow evenly though it is improvised.

EDI Sgt. Justin Wagner shared the video of his platoon before their graduation and continuation onto entry-level training. It’s incredibly impressive what these new Marines are able to do in this trick drill.

The Drill Instructor shared that “these were Marines on what we call ‘Marine Week’ which is the week of graduation (after the Crucible, which makes them Marines). As you can see, there’s another platoon heading out for a brief from the 1stSgt. We had a few extra minutes so I taught them that on the fly. The 5060 (Drill & Ceremonies Manual) specifically says that Trick Drill may be taught once they master all standard drill movements. Since they won Initial & Final Drill I’d say that constitutes mastery. Semper Fi.”

Watch the video below to be amazed at the dedications of the members of our military!

That was incredible. They weren’t even distracted by the other platoon running out as they were completing this improvised drill! That requires intense concentration!
