There has been much speculation about Tim Tebow being promoted to the Major Leagues because of his stellar year in AA baseball. Mets GM John Ricco added fuel to that possibility in a recent interview.

The Mets are currently 4th in the National League East. If they are going to make the playoffs, they need a big boost. Tim Tebow might be the solution to that problem and he could help fill the stands as well. Tebow, who was an NFL Quarterback just three years ago, has made a very successful pivot to baseball and is batting .269 with 12 doubles, five home runs, and 33 RBIs with the Mets Double-A team the Binghamton Rumble Ponies.

Ricco told the NY Daily News that there hasn’t been a discussion yet about promoting Tebow in September, but those talks might be happening in the future.

“It’ll be something I talk with J.P. (Ricciardi) and Omar (Minaya) about and then we’ll see where it goes. But right now, he’s continuing to develop,” Ricco said. “You have to just give him credit for the effort level and the commitment and the results are coming with him.”

Tebow has proven his skill and dedication to the sport, but there is one obstacle that all athletes encounter – aging. At 29, the former Heisman trophy winner is much older than the typical player being called up to the Majors. But, there is nothing typical about Tim Tebow!

“The thing with him all along was going to be Father Time and whether he has a long enough window in order to make this happen, but he’s trending in the right direction,” Ricco said.

“Every month it seems he gets better and better and I know he made the All-Star team and I know that that’s exciting,” the Mets GM continued. “At Double-A, he’s more than holding his own. He had more hits last night and I think it’s a great story.”

Tebow did have a good performance at Wednesday’s All-Star game. Although his team was defeated, he had a double. Ricco likely took notice of the performance, which you can watch below.
