Joanna Gaines Shares Sweet Photo Of Their Wedding Day 15 Years Later

Chip and Joanna Gaines may no longer be on our TVs, but they’re still in our hearts – and Joanna melted all of ours on Thursday when she shared a sweet throwback photo to celebrate her and Chip’s 15th wedding anniversary.

Unsurprisingly, the story of how Chip and Joanna met is equal parts silly and sweet.

While Chip and Joanna both attended Baylor University, that’s actually not where they met. Instead, Chip first spotted Joanna in a photo at her father’s car shop in Waco. “Her dad made the mistake of putting a pic of the family behind the counter at his shop,” Chip said. “I knew I’d marry her one day just by the picture on the wall.”

From then on, Chip would visit the shop as often as possible, making any excuse to stop by in hopes of meeting Joanna. His efforts finally paid off in 2001. “We met in the waiting area and hit it off immediately,” Joanna said. “He was genuinely engaging and he had such a sincere smile.”

However, it wasn’t immediately happily-ever-after for the pair.

First, Chip arrived an hour late to their first date. Second, he didn’t call Joanna for months afterward – all over $50. “I’d made a bet with John to see who could hold out the longest before calling our dates back,” Chip wrote in the Gaineses book, The Magnolia Story. “I really wanted that fifty dollars from John! That’s the only reason I didn’t call.”

Luckily for him, Joanna was willing to reconnect. After dating for a little over a year, they married at the Earle-Harrison House in Waco on May 31, 2003. Fifteen years later, they’re going stronger than ever.

On their anniversary, Joanna shared a photo from their wedding day with the caption, “It’s been a good fifteen years […] Here’s to fifty more…”

As for Chip, he marked the occasion with a sweet poem to his wife on Twitter.
