Merle and Stella Keena’s love story went viral, and it is sure to melt your heart.
Western Journal reported that Merle and Stella have been married for 79 years, and they are just as in love as they were back then. Now 95 years old, Stella was only 17 when she met the love of her life.
“Yeah, she was a cute chick back then,” Merle, now 101, laughed.
“I’m Norwegian and he’s Irish. They said it would never last,” Stella said.
In their nearly 80 years of marriage, Merle and Stella have faced many trials and obstacles, but they have made it through them all. One of the worst times in the marriage came when the two were separated when Merle was sent to live in a nursing home. Merle later described this as the “worst experience I ever had.”
Stella wasn’t about to let her husband be kept away from her, however, so she decided to take action. She managed to get him out of that nursing home and bring him home with her where he belonged.
“I brought him home. I take of him,” she said. Since then, Stella does whatever she can to take care of her husband, and he is much happier than he was in the senior care facility.
“I do a little bit of cooking and I see that he gets good food ’cause that’s what he likes. And he gets what he wants. And it works,” she said.
Thankfully, Stella and Merle have loving neighbors and grandchildren who come around to help the couple as much as they can.
“I have a lot of good help,” Stella said. “I’m happy and he’s happy and when he’s happy, I’m happy.”
“I’m happy when she’s around,” Merle sweetly added.
The love the Keenas share is truly touching, and we’re so glad to see that they are getting the fairy tale ending to their lives that they deserve.
