How Seth Rollins Has Made The Intercontinental Championship The Most Important Title

I know, I know. You all are probably sick and tired of me heaping praise on Seth Rollins. But a Twitter user by the name of Kelsey has pointed out exactly how Rollins has elevated the WWE Intercontinental Championship to be the most crucial championship on Raw.

WWE recently returned stateside from a two-week European tour. On that tour, Rollins defended the Intercontinental Championship in 11 matches across seven countries, including England, Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and France.

Rollins himself responded to Kelsey’s tweet, commenting that he’s “all heart.”

Numbers Don’t Lie

Now, here’s where the significance of Rollins’s incredible tour de force sinks in. In 43+ days as Intercontinental Champion, Rollins has defended the title a total of 15 times (including dark matches and house shows). By comparison, in 413+ days as Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar has defended the title 14 times – one less than Rollins, despite being champion nearly ten times as long.

This boys and girls, is unacceptable.

Don’t get me wrong – I love what Seth Rollins is doing with the Intercontinental Championship, and I hope he continues. But it must be said that the incredible attention Rollins is receiving is due in part to the fact that Lesnar, Raw’s alleged top champion, is M.I.A. And that’s unfortunate for everyone.

However, there could be good news on the horizon. There’s a rumor going around that Rollins could be the next person to challenge Lesnar for the Universal Championship. If true, this would be an excellent move on WWE’s part. Rollins has become Raw’s workhorse, and he hasn’t been anywhere near the Universal title picture since Finn Balor defeated him to become the inaugural champion way back at SummerSlam 2016. In my opinion, he’s long overdue for another shot at it.

Unfortunately, there’s also speculation that Jinder Mahal could be Lesnar’s next challenger. Bolstering this theory is the fact that Mahal is facing Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank, not to mention that Mahal is technically owed a shot at Lesnar; the two were supposed to square off at Survivor Series last year until Mahal lost the WWE Championship to AJ Styles.

But let’s not think about that awful potential scenario. Instead, let’s focus on how excellent a job Seth Rollins is doing as Intercontinental Champion.

What do you think of Seth Rollins’s reign as Intercontinental Champion? Is he already one of the best of all time? Share your thoughts below!
