She Won Four Olympic Medals, But Her Biggest Medal Was Finding Jesus

Shawn Johnson was the darling of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. She won four medals in gymnastics for the USA. That was an amazing accomplishment, but it wasn’t enough for her. She was not proud of herself. Until Shawn Johnson found Jesus.

Olympic Gold Medals Weren’t Enough

When she earned a silver medal, the person who gave her the medal said, “I am sorry!” Those three words crushed her.

Second place wasn’t good enough. This person crushed her joy. Many people expected American gymnast Shawn Johnson to win four gold medals.

Instead, the sixteen-year-old won three silver medals and one gold. And she was crushed because she felt she hadn’t lived up to expectations.

She felt as though she failed.

It’s amazing to think anyone who won four medals at the Olympics would have felt like a failure, but that’s what this gymnastics legend experienced.

The pressure was that great. After that, she sunk into depression.

Shawn Johnson Finds Jesus

But, Shawn was missing something in her life. The following years were very hard on Shawn as she felt she was never good enough, even after all her accomplishments.

She felt the world didn’t accept her for who she is. Then she had a moment. A moment that affects your life so profoundly that you know you will never be the same.

In one instant at practice when she was so overcome with exhaustion and the pressures of meeting everyone’s expectations, Shawn Johnson realized that God was there for her and that Jesus is her Savior.

Watch her describe this in her own words in the inspiring video below.

That is so powerful.

Shawn Johnson was able to find her peace in Jesus. One instant changed her life forever. She is right. “God is the answer to everything.”

You can work your whole life towards a career goal, but it’s not the purpose of life. God is the purpose in life.

Please share this to spread the news that Jesus can bring peace to your life!
