remarried 50 years divorce

Sometimes love can be rekindled after going dormant for many years. That’s what happened to Harold Holland and Lillian Barnes. This couple divorced fifty years ago, but are getting married again this month.

The couple had five children after getting married in 1955 in Salt Lick, Kentucky. They ended up divorcing in 1967. Harold takes the blame for that. “It was 100 percent my fault,” he said. Harold claims he worked too much and left Lillian to parent the children herself.

Divorce separated them for half a century, but now, Harold reports they are getting remarried because “We decided we want to walk the last mile together.”

After divorcing, they each remarried other people. Both of their respective spouses died in 2015. At a family reunion, they hit it off again. By December of 2017, they were talking about tying the knot for the second time.

“I don’t think we ever lost that love, to tell you the truth,” Harold said. He also said things will be much different this time.

“We’ll go do whatever we want to, whenever we want to do it,” he said. “I’ll take her wherever she wants to go.”

Lillian said that she and her fiancé, who is also her ex-husband, have a lot in common – even though he “didn’t think I’d ever speak to him again.” She followed that up by saying, “He got fooled!”

The couple will be reunited in marriage at their wedding on April 14th. Appropriately, their grandson Joshua Holland, who is a New Orleans minister, will officiate the ceremony.

This will be quite the celebration, not only for their children, who were so young at the time of the divorce, but Lillian and Harold’s grandchildren will experience them being married to each other. This truly is a remarkable love story and a beautiful way to finish that last mile.
