Katy Perry Christianity

Pop star Katy Perry was raised in a religious Christian household, but she put that behind her when she hit the big time. Now, it appears that she is making strides toward returning to Jesus.

On Easter, Perry shared an Instagram photo of her a Jesus tattoo. It is reported she got this tattoo when she was just 18. Accompanying the photo were the words, “my brokenness + God’s divinity = my wholeness.”

This is not something many were expecting as Perry’s public persona doesn’t often match up with the religious background of her childhood. But, redemption can always be found in Jesus. He will always accept our return to Him.

The spirit of Easter is infectious. Fellow pop star Justin Bieber also shared his love of Jesus with his Instagram followers on Resurrection Sunday.

Just a few weeks ago, Perry told Glamour magazine she was “preparing to do a big soul overhaul.” Perhaps the time for that soul overhaul is now.

“I want to emotionally elevate myself. I don’t want to hold on to childhood trauma anymore. I want to grow into becoming an adult,” she stated. This is important to her because she wants to start a family.

Both of the singer’s parents are pastors and she has opened up about her strict upbringing in the past. Perhaps the last several years have been her way of rebelling against religion, but she is obviously seeking to embrace it again.

Last year, Perry’s parents asked people to pray for their daughter. “I want you to pray for my daughter,” Keith Hudson said. “Don’t judge her, pray for her.”

Perry, whose birth name is Katheryn Hudson, previously said that she didn’t consider herself Christian anymore. Apparently, she has had a conversion.

While she is still hanging onto the Hollywood lifestyle, she should be encouraged for her return to Christ. That’s a bold statement for someone living in the thick of Hollywood. People can change, and that includes Katy Perry, too!
