You know pop singer Katy Perry.
But what you might not know is that both of her parents are devout evangelists – and now her father is asking the public to pray for their wayward daughter:
The record-breaking pop artist Katy Perry is a far cry from the Jesus-loving preacher’s kid she once was in her teens.
While her parents, Keith and Mary Hudson, who lead a prophetic ministry in California, disagree with their daughter’s decisions, they still choose to love her. They recently spoke at the Church Of Grace in Yorba Linda, California, asking the congregation to pray for her.
“I want you to pray for my daughter,” Keith said. “Don’t judge her, pray for her.”
Believe it or not, Perry started her career as a Gospel singer before she moved into secular music at age 17. Her mother said that she had such a gift for worship that when she would perform in church “people would just weep.”
But Perry has since denounced Christianity:
“I don’t believe in a heaven or a hell or an old man sitting on a throne. I believe in a higher power bigger than me because that keeps me accountable.
[…]
I’m not Buddhist, I’m not Hindu, I’m not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God.”
Perry recently said that she and her parents “agree to disagree” about her career choices.
However, her father’s call for prayer comes not long after the release of Perry’s explicit new single, “Bon Appétit.”
“It’s only the love of God that will bring them back,” her mother said.
