Hardcore Pawn

There is no such thing as a typical day when you’re a pawnbroker. You never know what is going to walk through the door or who is trying to scam you.

“Hardcore Pawn” is one of TruTV’s most successful shows. It is set at American Jewelry and Loan. This Detroit pawn shop is located in the 8 Mile Road corridor, and the staff sees it all.

In one rough episode, a woman comes into the pawn shop trying to return diamond earrings. She claims she doesn’t have a receipt but wants to return them because a diamond was missing from one. She wanted to turn over the earrings for cash. Unfortunately for the woman, there were a few problems.

You can’t return something without a receipt. This is a rather standard store policy. Even if she had a receipt, she couldn’t get cash for it. The receipts from this store specifically state this. More importantly, the diamonds were fake.

This woman was trying to scam these pawnbrokers, and she got busted. Even after she was caught, she wouldn’t admit defeat. She started hollering and trying to cause a scene. She didn’t want to give up on her cash grab. But, there was no way she was going to be permitted to stay.

Watch what happens in the video below.

That woman was not about to go quietly, even after being exposed. These scam artists sometimes have to be pushed out the door.

Diamonds can be a sore spot for a lot of people. Jewelry is often pawned during times of financial stress. Sometimes this means an engagement ring gets pawned.

In the video below, a woman comes into the pawn shop demanding her engagement ring after finding a pawn ticket for it in her husband’s wallet. This isn’t how things work and the woman gets bounced from the store.

I can’t imagine that is a very happy marriage. She might have to file a police report against her husband to get her ring back. Whatever her problem is, she has no right to act like an animal.
