Baby Jesus Statue

A statue of Baby Jesus had been missing a long time from Our Lady of Grace and St. Joseph in Hoboken, New Jersey. The statue had apparently been stolen in the 1930s, but 80 years later, it suddenly reappeared at the New Jersey parish.

Father Alexander Santora was concerned when he received a package last week. There wasn’t a return address, and it was obviously packaged by a person rather than a company. Given the threat of terrorism and the odd nature of the package, he contacted the Hoboken Police Department prior to opening it.It’s asfsdfsdfasfs

The police department’s Emergency Service Unit used a heat-seeking device to ensure the contents of the package weren’t a threat to the priest of the parish.

When Father Santora opened the package after getting the all-clear from police, he said it “was a surprise” to find a well-preserved Baby Jesus statue looking up at him.

A note that accompanied the statue detailed that it had been stolen from the church’s Nativity display in the 1930s. The man who sent the package said the statue ended up in his grandfather’s possession at some point. Rather than returning it, his grandfather kept the statue.

“Instead, he gave it to my mother after she was married, and she too kept it until her passing when it came to me. Knowing the story, I felt it should be returned to the rightful owner, and you will find it enclosed,” the note read.

Father Santora was happy that Baby Jesus had been returned to the parish eight decades after being stolen. He recognized this return by the grandson as a graceful gesture of good faith.

The priest reports that Baby Jesus is in excellent condition with “only a chip on the bottom.” It’s rather remarkable that during almost a century’s long disappearance the statue is in such sturdy shape. The priest is not even sure if the remainder of that same Nativity still is at the church in storage.

While there wasn’t a return address on the package, the postal tracking number traced it back to Crystal Springs, Florida.
