Lindy Hoppers

Things were much different in the 1950s. When people went out to dance, they dressed respectably and it was a respectable art form.

The 1950s brought about the birth of rock and roll. The dancing was incredible as it was often heavily influenced by swing dancing and the jitterbug. This was more evident in Harlem in the 1950s than perhaps anywhere else.

The video below is a real treat. It shows the Lindy Hoppers dancing at the Savoy Ballroom. This rare footage will definitely have you at least tapping your toes!

Wow! That’s some amazing dancing. It’s much better than anything you’d see on TV today. Everyone dressed respectably and I loved watching them glide across the floor!
