Rock fans woke up this morning to the shocking news that Chris Cornell of Soundgarden died last night in Detroit following a concert. Cornell was also the frontman for Audioslave.
Cornell’s representative Brian Bumbery said the death was “sudden and unexpected.” The grunge band split in 1997, but reunited in 2010. They are credited, along with Nirvana, with helping grunge rock become mainstream.
The 52-year-old singer had been upbeat about Soundgarden’s tour. He even tweeted before last night’s concert, just hours before his death.
You can hear Cornell sing “Spoonman” for the last time in the video below. This is from Wednesday night’s concert in Detroit.
