With Just A Piano And A Cello, They Perform Perhaps The Best Christmas Song Ever

Sometimes music can be so pure and beautiful that it can actually help you feel the Spirit of God. That’s exactly how I felt after listening to The Piano Guys perform “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”

The Piano Guys Perform ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’

With just a piano and a cello, these two men create perhaps the most soul stirring Christmas song I may have ever hear. The simple yet moving performance features Steven Sharp Nelson on cello and Jon Schmidt on piano.

History of ‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’

‘O Come, O Come, Emmanuel’ is a Christian hymn performed during Advent and Christmas. If you attend a Christian church during the holidays, I’m sure you’re familiar with its soothing, timeless tune.

The lyrics were originally in Latin and John Mason Neale is credited with the first published English translation in 1861. A 1916 translation by Henry Sloane Coffin in 1916 — which included only the “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” verse by Neale and Coffin’s two “new” verses — became the most widely used version. The beautiful melody has ties back as far as 15th century France.

The Piano Guys rendition is so peaceful and beautiful. I can just imagine myself now curling up on the couch to unwind from a long day while watching the lights twinkle on my Christmas tree.

This elegant version of a classic Christmas hymn might just be my new holiday favorite!
