Secret storage in a kitchen mug has been discovered after seventy years. A mug at the Auschwitz Museum was recently discovered to have a false bottom that hid a gold necklace and a gold ring with stones. The gold was from Poland between 1921 and 1931.
This discovery should serve as an important reminder to not let history repeat itself. And it’s a timely reminder, considering anti-Semitism is on the rise.
As you can see in the video below, Jews took some of their most valuable possessions with them when the Nazis carted them away. Many felt these valuables would help them survive. It showed both hope and distrust. But, they didn’t know what awaited them at the Death Camps.
“The jewellery found in the mug will be stored in the Collections of the Museum in the form reflecting the manner in which it had been hidden by the owner, as a testimony to the fate of the Jews deported to the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp,” the museum writes.
The Auschwitz Museum says it is unlikely that the owner of the jewelry will ever be identified. We can only imagine the true story behind this mug and its owner. But, we can pledge to never let anything like the Holocaust ever happen again.
Please share this to remind others what happened at those Death Camps.
