The Hollywood star Tim Allen of Home Improvement and Last Man Standing fame has spent the past year reading the Bible in its entirety. He’s previously revealed that he’s finished the Old Testament, and that he’s on to the New Testament.
Now, Allen is speaking out to reveal what has “amazed” him most about the New Testament so far.
Allen Gushes Over New Testament
“Finished the Old Testament and it is such a gift when I get out of the way and the words and meaning flow,” Allen wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
“This week I am now in the book of the Gospel of Paul. A Roman Jew familiar with Plato, Stoicism, and other Greek schools of thought,” he continued. “I am amazed in seven pages!”
Hours later, Allen added, “Ok specifically reading Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans.”
Allen Pledges To Read Entire Bible
In August of last year, Allen revealed to the world that he had embarked on a journey to read the Bible in its entirety.
“Never took the time in all my years to ever read and really read the Bible,” Allen wrote on social media at the time.
“Currently almost through the Jerusalem Bible Old Testament and almost done with the Prophets,” he added. “Next up to New Testament. So far amazing and not at all what I was expecting.”
In February of this year, Allen gave fans an update on his progress.
“After nearly a year, I have finished [the] entire Old Testament and the experience of re-reading, dedicated focus, and no drifting has made this a humbling, overwhelming experience,” Allen wrote on X. “What a treasure.”
“Three days into New Testament,” he added.
Allen’s History With His Faith
Allen has long been open about his Christian faith and his journey to finding God. He was only 11 years-old when his father was killed by a drunk driver. This caused Allen to question his faith.
“For years, I just did not like this idea of God, church,” he told ABC News back in 2011. “(I was) still a churchgoer, but constantly a cynic.”
This all changed after Allen was arrested in 1978 with over a pound of cocaine. He subsequently spent two years in prison, where he found God again. Allen has been a proud believer ever since. These days, he refers to God as “The Builder.”

Christianity In The Santa Clauses
In 2022, Allen revealed that he went above and beyond to ensure that his Disney+ series The Santa Clauses incorporated Christianity into it.
“I always do ask … The Builder, what did you want me to do?” Allen told The Wrap. “And I do ask it. But you got to be prepared for the answer. Whoever built me, this is too much, too weird that it happened by accident. It didn’t happen by accident.”
“It originally had a lot of otherworldly characters, and ghosts, and goblins. I said no, this is Christ-mas. It’s Christ-mas. It literally is a religious holiday,” Allen adamantly added. “We don’t have to blow trumpets, but I do want you to acknowledge it. That’s what this is about. If you want to get into Santa Claus, you’re gonna have to go back to history, and it’s all about religion.”
Thanks to Allen, multiple episodes of the series included religious elements. Allen confessed that it was “really wonderful” to see this happen, adding that the show “took a chance, and we did it very well.”
Allen has long been one of the only openly devout Christian stars in Hollywood. We applaud him for being so open about the Biblical journey that he is currently on, and we can’t wait to hear his full thoughts on the New Testament when he finally completes it.
God bless you, Tim Allen!
