Success of the Show

It didn’t take long for Untamed to make its mark on Netflix. The series debuted at number one on the Netflix global Top 10 English-language shows for the week of July 14th-20th, after releasing on July 17th.

Racking up more than 24.6 million total views in a few days, it more than doubled the next closest show on the list, Amy Bradley is Missing, which had 12.2 million views.

Netflix’s Untamed Season 2

Everyone is thrilled about the renewal news.

In a statement, lead star Eric Bana said, “I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of ‘Untamed’ to life. The response to season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.”

A New Setting

Bana will return as Kyle Turner, Investigative Services Branch agent of the National Parks Service, but he won’t be returning to Yosemite. Instead, the agent will have to uncover a new mystery in a completely new park. After solving one of the most devastating cases in his career in season one, Turner hits the road and releases years of emotional baggage.

This is also a great pivot for the series to continue into a new season, since real-life ISB agents routinely travel from park to park. The newest season will not be his next case; rather, he will have several stops in between, with season 2 being another memorable case for him.

The park will also be an intentional choice, as it often reflects the character’s feelings and emotions in the moment. During an interview, showrunner Elle Smith commented, “Our theme has been that this park is our main character, this park is sort of alive. We do want to maintain that thread. Whichever park we choose will be a character and it will kind of play a role in Turner’s emotional frame of mind.”

As of now, the featured park remains a mystery.

Making Turner Uncomfortable

Another goal in the second season will be making Turner uncomfortable. Since Turner was so comfortable in Yosemite, his character was able to lead the troops into the wilderness and figure out the caper.

However, in this new season, he will not be as familiar with the terrain, and it will push him out of his comfort zone. Complete with new cast members and a new mystery, Turner is going to be on his toes every step of the way.
